"Practicing and knowing my solos from private study paid off well during my collegiate career. I used my solos every time I auditioned for a band and also for chair auditions. I played in the campus band at University of Michigan (for non-music majors) and then later in a community band with Concordia University in Riverforest, IL. The nice thing about knowing a technical piece of music well was that it helped me get a good chair placement even if I would have had difficulty sight reading something at a similar degree of difficulty. I was then able to get the concert music, practice, and play at the level I knew I could.
I pulled out my flute recently and it was so wonderful. I was smiling through most of the pieces because I really could hear you and I loved seeing all your notes in the music. It was amazing how much just flowed naturally once I had the instrument in my hand.
I graduated from Eisenhower High School, achieved my Bachelor of Arts at University of Michigan, and my J.D. from DePaul College of Law, Chicago. I have three beautiful children and work for a major international corporation."
Former DMS Student, Mrs. M., Tipp City, OH
"Taking private lessons has improved my skill level greatly. I have learned discipline, music history, and made new friends. I have been able to experience new styles of music and participate in charitable performances. I do not know what my musical life would be like without private lessons!" - Former DMS Student Juliana B., Grand Rapids, MI
"Music lessons taught me about diligence and hard work. They allowed me to make lifelong friends (my teachers and fellow students). They taught me that I can produce something beautiful and allowed me to express myself through music. Ultimately, they instilled confidence in me. They showed me that I have a talent and a gift, and taught me the importance of sharing my gifts with others. I am blessed to have been able to contribute to my community and to move the hearts and minds of others through music.
I graduated Troy Athens High School, Hillsdale College Bachelor of Science and today I am a graduate student of the University of Cincinnati Genetic Counseling Program. I am just months away from graduating with my Master's and beginning to practice as a genetic counselor." - Former DMS Student Maureen O., Cincinnati, OH
"One of the many things I have loved about my daughter's private music lessons is it has given her an appreciation for many different kinds of music." - Mrs. P., Washington Township, MI
