Congratulations Alison E., 8th Grader at Romeo Middle School, named "Best Woodwind, Romeo MIddle School 2012-13"! This marks the second consecutive year Alison has earned this award. Alison will be quite an asset to the Romeo High School Band Program next year!
Decker Music Studio Honors Recital May 19, 2013
The annual DMS Honors Recital was hosted on Sunday, May 19th at the studio All the World's a Stage. Graduating Seniors Juliana B., Eisenhower High School and Brittany H., Romeo High School were featured in solo performance.

The Decker Music Studio Flute Choir performed for the annual Turning Point Macomb Spirit of Leadership Awards Dinner on Thursday, May 16.
Turning Point serves the community by educating individuals about the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault. Turning Point is dedicated to the development and promotion of model programs that address the root causes of violence to the enhancement of the quality of life for present and future generations.
Decker Music Studio is proud to once again partner with Turning Point for this annual event that honors Macomb County women in leadership.

Metropolitan Detroit Musicians League
Woodwind Student Achievement Testing
The annual Metropolitan Detroit Musicians Leauge Woodwind Student Achievement Testing Day was March 10th at Evola Music in Shelby Township. Students are tested in five areas of skill: Performance (two accompanied solos and an etude), Technique (memorized scales), Sight Reading, Written and Aural Theory. With Levels IA (easiest) to VI (most difficult), students progress sequentially through the levels throughout their music study. Students earn scores based on a 100 point system and must earn a score greater than 82 to pass their level.

Romeo High School Flute Octet
Mrs. Decker-Beck coached the Romeo High School Flute Choir Octet in preparation for District XVI Solo and Ensemble Festival. The Choir earned a 1st Division Rating and will progress to State Solo and Ensemble Festival.
MSBOA High School District XVI Solo and Ensemble Festival
Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association Solo and Ensemble Festival is an annual adjudicated student performance in instrumental or piano solo and/or instrumental ensemble. The ratings represent cumulative scoring based on established objective criterion resulting in an overall performance score I (Outstanding), II (Excellent), III (Good), IV (Fair), V (Poor). DMS Students begin preparing solos for festival in late summer or early fall. Piano solos are played from memory. High school students who achieve a I rating will progress to State Solo and Ensemble on March 23rd.

Romeo Monday Club Christmas Party Flute Choir Performance
The Decker Music Studio Holiday Flute Choir performed by invitation for the Romeo Monday Club Christmas Party on Monday, December 10th. The Romeo Monday Club is a charitable women's organization supporting, among other causes, the fine arts in Romeo. Notably, Romeo Monday Club grants a scholarship to graduating Romeo High School Seniors who choose to major in fine arts. We were pleased to accept a donation from Romeo Monday Club on behalf of our charitable fundraising efforts this holiday season: Wigs 4 Kids, St. Clair Shores, MI. Christmas at the Octagon House
The DMS Holiday Flute Choir performed in the Quilt Room of the Historic Loren Andrus Octagon House in Washington, Michigan on Saturday, November 17th. Hosted by the Friends of the Octagon House, this Soiree is an annual fundraiser for the preservation of this important National Landmark. The Loren Andrus House is a Nationally Registered Historic Landmark because the home was on the Route of the Underground Railroad, harboring slaves during and even after Emancipation for safe passage to Canada. Congratulations DMS Student Julia K.
A special thank you and congratulations to flute student Julia Kropa. Julia is on the Junior Board of the Friends of the Octagon House. Her passion for history, personal maturity and poise has made her a respected member of the Romeo Historic Society ommunity. Julia performed Solo Flute on Friday, November 16th, the first night of the Soiree, and returned to perform in Flute Choir Saturday, November 17th. Julia took on a leadership role during our performance and contributed to our overall experience by explaining the historic site and introducing us to the President of the Board of Directors. Julia is a Junior at Romeo High School.

Student Ryan S. earned 1st Chair Flute at International Academy Macomb, Freshman Band. Ryan had attended Romeo Community Schools Powell Middle School prior to acceptance at the International Academy.
Students Juliana and Jennie performed at "A Night Under the Stars", a Fine Arts Festival in the Village of Romeo.
On Friday, August 17, 2012 DMS Students performed for the inaugural "A Night Under the Stars" fine arts festival hosted by the Romeo Washington Bruce Chamber of Commerce. This event featured local authors, artists and musicians to raise money for RHS student scholarships. Congratulations and thank you Jennie Purdy, a Freshman at Kettering University studying Chemical Engineering and Juliana B., a Senior at Eisenhower High School.

DMS Student Juliana, Senior at Eisenhower High School attended the inaugural Avanti Summer Music Festival flute workshop and Concert Band Camp. The Avanti Festival featured a six day intensive study program with Detroit Symphony Orchestra flutists, sectionals and performances in two large ensembles. The week long program culminated in a performance at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra home, Orchestra Hall. Juliana played flute solo on a Concert Band Selection!
